Queen anne's lace

You might be right. I guess that smaller dark dot on the near umbel could be it - it looks geometrically right but not the larger dot (I assumed that is an insect) - and the whole umbel can only have one of course... the far umbel has a spot in the right position too. I believe Daucus carota should always have the magenta flower. This is the one that sometimes gets confusingly called QAL http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ammi_majus Sandra6 I think you should go with Daucus carota as scientific name. Good chat peoples.

I agree common names can be confusing, but taking second look at picture, there is a dark spot in the center of both the larger umbels. Could this be the magenta flower, and does QAL always have the magents flower?

Your right chesterbperry.. but it's not straight forward - I've found in the US there are 3 things called Queen Anne's Lace and a different one in Europe... 'Common names' can be a problem. When I dug into this ages ago I found the story behind QAL was based on the little single magenta flower at the centre of Daucus carota - it represented a drop of her blood.
