Sorry Jonathan for the confusion, and thank you for making me research on it. :-)
But Jonathan I was mistaken it is Gunnera tinctoria. This is the one growing here in Ireland.
I know G insignis and G. talamancana. G.manicata looks super large. Nice report and pic.
Thank s Jonathan its updated and changed to Gunnera manicata.
Gina, By seen the plant I think it is Gunnera, Which is diferent the Rhubarb, You have to find out if that plant is or not what I think...The color of the stem and the spikes on it, the kind of inflorescen, is the reason I think it is Gunnera, I am not sure if by nature you can see that plant in North Carolina. Is it in a Botanical Garden???
