Description:

I just put this hummingbird feeder out and a female found it. She stayed for a few seconds. Her tail was flared in a couple of pictures. It's a widening black and white square-ish tail.

Ashish, I have no idea. It's not really a habitat, so much as a supplemental food source. I see these hummingbirds eat off of the feeders like these, and the flowers in my yard. They really don't seem to prefer one source over the other, as far as I can tell. They feed all day and my feeders stay full for two to three weeks. This leads me to believe, they are not modifying their behavior and "only" going to the man-made feeders or the feeders would empty sooner, I would think. Wikipedia article above has a series of pictures of a hummingbird at a man-made feeder. I wonder what other folks have to say about this. You've got me thinking about this.
Isn't such artificial habitats change lifestyle of Hummingbirds..? I do not have idea about their lifecycle...
Ashish, I am not sure why such feeders are developed. It's the United States, so I imagine it was created to get me to part with my money (haha, consumerism). But I liked the feeder because it was metal, had a large glass for holding the feeder nectar, and the metal was in the shape of a ladybug, which I like a lot. Even the chain was metal. And the best part, it was on 70% off due to end of season sale. I don't know if the hummingbirds are decreasing in population or not.
Heather ,i like your feeder. Very different from the ones we use here. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/6012044
Heather why such feeders are developed... Do their habitats are decreasing...?
Thanks Emma, I learned from another person on here to try a photo setting that might get the wings even more clear in the photo. I will try next time I see a hummingbird.
i love the third picture where you have caught it in mid air!!
