Field Notes

Description:

A low, evergreen shrub with 3"-8" upright branches with many shiny, hard, oval leaves. The flowers vary from white to pink, are small and bell-shaped, and are clustered at the end of the branches.

Habitat:

Acidic soil, hummocks in bogs, woods and alpine slopes up to about 3500 foot elevation

Notes:

The berries usually ripen in early September in Alaska.
