Field Notes

Description:

The Red Deer (Cervus elaphus) is one of the largest deer species. Depending on taxonomy, the Red Deer inhabits most of Europe, the Caucasus Mountains region, Asia Minor, parts of western Asia, and central Asia. It also inhabits the Atlas Mountains region between Morocco and Tunisia in northwestern Africa, being the only species of deer to inhabit Africa.

Habitat:

Here spotted in the Oostvaardersplassen near Lelystad, Netherlands on a cold winter morning.

Notes:

In winter the deer seem less shy. I could approach this animal up to a few meters (say 10 to 12 feet) to take my pictures. She watched me,... asked me "are you done" and then ignored me.

@AshishNimkar She stood there impassively, chewing grass. Watching me at first, and then ignored me completely.
