These snake-necked turtles are one of the most ancient families of turtles. They are found in the wild only in the southern hemisphere.

@ ceherzog Yes it is amazing..and I am happy I rescued her! She is now in the creek that borders my property.. I spotted her this morning!

I don't know much about this turtles.. they are normally very shy. I found this one on the bridge.. run over by at least 1 car and very dehydrated. So I stopped the car, picked up the turtle, put her (It was a her) in the Esky and took her home! She was checked by a vet! After 2 days she was very active and happy to go back to the creek!

Those are nice shots of a really gorgeous turtle. Are they fairly docile, or is there a good reason to stay out of reach of that amazing neck?

wow, that's a neat one. That is one epic-ly long neck, and I didn't know there were turtles with such distinct tympanum.
