Field Notes

Description:

Common Murre at Machias Seal Island.

Notes:

Murres get their name from the sound they make, which is sort of a low moan. These two individuals were just taking flight from the water. They sort of run on top of the water to help build up enough speed to take flight. There are two morphs. The Bridled morph has a white eyering and white line behind the eye.
