Field Notes

Description:

The adult is brown with yellow in the lateral fins, and eyelid, and blue circling the eyes. the juveniles have red in the upper side of the body, a dark spot with blue next to the tail, and blue body. As it matures the blue is gradually replaced by brownish color and the spot fades. This one is in an intermediate stage.

Habitat:

Coral and rocky reefs.
This species is only known from three locations (Galápagos, Cocos and Malpelo Islands), but the majority of its adult poulation is thought to be restricted to the Galapagos.
