I think it looks like a type of tickseed.

This looks like what I've always called a Prairie Dandelion (Krigia). Not sure where I got the common name though. However, the USDA plant database doesn't show any species of Krigia in the area where this spotting was made, so I'm a bit perplexed. Hope you have some time to do some research and be sure to let us know what you find out.
