Field Notes
Description:
It is a perennial herb that reaches 1 meter in height. The flowers are grouped in inflorescences that take the shape of a compound and spherical umbel. They are yellow, hermaphroditic, and appear in summer. The fruit measures 10-15mm, and has a laminar expansion wing.
Habitat:
Pine forest next to the Mediterranean Sea. It can be found in thin forests, roads and in degrading thickets in the Iberian Peninsula, France, North Africa, in the western Mediterranean.
Notes:
The plant has purgative and emetic properties, although this application is not advisable and it is quite dangerous to take this plant as a home remedy without first consulting a doctor.
The root is a very strong (toxic) purgative, and therefore it is not convenient to use it. In some areas it has also been used to impregnate the waters and fish fraudulently, stunning the fish to catch them easily.
The oil-infused root bark is applied to combat rheumatism and is often used as a poultice, to be applied directly to the pain-affected area.
