Common Garter Snake

Thamnophis sirtalis

Comments (1)

There are only 15 snakes native to Oregon. Of those only three have a stripe down the middle of the back. The western Terrestrial garter Snake has a zigzag stripe. The Northwestern Garter Snake (Thamnophis ordinoides) has a faint narrow stripe. The only one with a prominent stripe is the Common Garter Snake (Thamnophis sirtalis).
