Description:

An unexpected early morning surprise! The preceding four-photo sequence shows the "drive by spotting" of a beaver on the way to its lodge under the boardwalk where I was standing. The correct action sequence is Photo 2, 3, 1, 4. I chose to display the third photo in the sequence first because it is a better "poster frame." The wetlands of Huntley Meadows Park were created by the busy beavers that live in the park. The backstory: I was searching for emerging dragonflies when a large beaver emerged from the muddy waters of the wetlands. Not a dragonfly, but hey -- when life gives you beavers, make a dam. Good photo, that is! ;-)

Habitat:

Huntley Meadows Park, a 1,425 acre wetland area in Fairfax County, Virginia USA. Related Resource: http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/huntley/

Cool!!! Visit again in winter when the water freezes in spots...you'll see (hopefully) bubbles and beavers in the water under the ice.
Nice story! Life sometimes brings us 'presents' like this :) This also happened to us, but with a Eurasian Sparrowhawk in our garden http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/6297541
