Field Notes

Description:

This species is a North American member of the Nymphalidae family, otherwise known as the "brush-footed" butterflies.

Habitat:

This specimen was observed at the top of a narrow limestone/dolomite canyon in the forested Grand Gulf State Park near Thayer, Missouri.

Notes:

The butterfly is seen here attracted to the sweat on my walking stick which I am holding horizontally as I photograph it.
