Description:

This mourning dove is sitting on a telephone line in the tropical south. The red feet are particularly helpful in identification.

Habitat:

Widespread in North America. This dove was spotted in the tropical south.

Notes:

The mourning dove is protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.

I guess more info is needed to find out what it means " protected". I would never consider hunting this bird...I see them all the time and usually they are paired up and they hang out together in my neighborhood...to shoot one is like loosing a loved one!!
The question is - what does protected mean. If you look up info on the mourning dove, you will see that it is hunted. Perhaps a special permit applies.
