Field Notes

Description:

Adult Giant Sweetlips have black pectoral, pelvic and anal fins. The posterior end of the dorsal fin and the edges of the caudal fin are also black. The body and head are mottled grey to brown. Juvenile Giant Sweetlips look very different from adults; they are black with two yellow stripes above, and yellow below.

This species grow to 1 m in length. This individual looked full-sized, and was accompanied for a while by some cleaner wrasse.

Habitat:

This species occurs in tropical marine waters of the Indo-Pacific, from East Africa, north to Japan, south to Australia, and east to Fiji. In Australia it is known from the Great Barrier Reef, Queensland.

Notes:

My first attempt at taking a screen-grab from a video I took.

Now I've got to get to work and edit the other 40 or so Great Barrier Reef videos and then post them to YouTube. A spotters work is never done.
Great video Lori! I'm so happy we can now properly showcase your videos :)
Awesome Lori! So excited to see you using the new video feature!
Cool, we can add videos now. Check it out!
