Argonauta hians
13.7732, 120.909
Field Notes
Description:
A male Paper Nautilus - Argonauta hians (tiny sized of less than 1 cm) hitching a ride on a tiny Jellyfish. Paper Nautilus have been know to 'ride' on other animals like Jellyfish and other floating objects like sea grass and even rubbish.
When my dive guide pointed this to me, I had originally thought this to be an Octopus (which was not completely wrong since Nautilus belongs to the same Order of Octopoda) with the tentacles of the Jellyfish being tentacles of Octopus. As they moves in the water, they were synchronise like one, it was hard to tell that they were actually 2 different animals!
