Field Notes

Description:

About 33–37 cm in length, grey-brown plumage, with a yellow patch on the lower belly, red eyes, distinctive pinkish-red wattles on either side of the neck, white streaks on the chest.

Habitat:

Spotted at Kings Park, a vast green area located at Perth, Australia (2 times the size of Central Park NY) native to southern Australia, found in southeast Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and southwest Western Australia in open forest and woodland, is a common visitor to urban gardens and parks.

Notes:

It is one of the largest nectarivorous birds in the world, feeding from a wide variety of flowering plants. Insects also comprise part of its diet.
