Description:
The Hopping-Mouse has long hind legs and a long tufted tail. It has short chestnut coloured fur with grey-white underbelly. Very active at night and very social. They use a quadrupedal gait when moving slowly, but when moving quickly they use their long hind legs to bound along.
Habitat:
Spinifex Hopping-Mice live in arid spinifex tussock grasslands, woodlands, shrub lands and desert sand dunes.
Notes:
These hopping mice were spotted at the Ipswich Nature Centre in Queens Park, Ipswich. Lovely, lively little mice full of character. Hard to catch them for a photo!
