Field Notes

Description:

Distinctive day-flying moth with red hindwings and five red spots on metallic greenish blue forewings. It flies between July and August.

Habitat:

Widespread in Ireland. Likes damp meadows.

Notes:

Saw it in the mudflat vegetation (not long after the tide receded) of the nature reserve on a sunny afternoon.
The flower is a White Clover, I think.
