Field Notes

Description:

Medium sized dabbling duck, male in few nuances of grey and delicately patterned.

Habitat:

Common and widespread species in northern hemisphere, found in or around wetlands. Here, observed in eastern wetlands of pays de Gex - small area located in between the Jura range and Geneva lake.

Notes:

Observed in large numbers during the Wetlands Bird Count 2019. Previously placed in Anas genus, this (and fex others) species is today placed in genus Mareca.
