Field Notes

Description:

These get large. I have seen them 3-4 cm long. I have some that are entering a whole in the ceiling of the stairwell and that seems to be wasp or behavior. Black in color and the abdomen comes to wasp like end. Antennae are curved. A little aggressive, but I do not see them in groups or swarms. Thankfully. The wings are clear.

Habitat:

Hovering around plants on our compound here on the outskirts of Antananarivo. I've seen them on the countryside.

Notes:

They are larger than wasps or hornets that I have seen in the USA. All black too!
