Field Notes

Description:

Sparrow sized flycatcher, but a bit more elongated and elegant. I believe this was a female, all dull-brown above with a white patch on darker wing; and all white or cream-white below.

Habitat:

Common European species, most often found close to forests and wooded area - it appreciates open edges of forests allowing it to chase while quickly flying off the perch. Here, seen in rural, hilly and well wooded environment, on edges of these woods, and close to pastures of Pilat Regional parc in France. This is a common European migratory species, spending winters in Northern Africa.
