Field Notes

Description:

The Brown Honeyeater is a "medium-small pale grey-brown honeyeater with a distinctive yellow tuft behind its eye. It also has yellow to olive wing patches and tail panels. It is pale grey below, darker olive brown above and has a long curved black bill." (Birdlife Australia: http://www.birdlife.org.au/bird-profile/brown-honeyeater ) They have lovely song which is quite loud in comparison to the size of the bird.

Habitat:

Feeding on a flower in what I have been told is an African Mahogany tree in the front yard.

Notes:

There are a number of these little birds that inhabit the yard...or at least visit the yard. They come and have a drink and bathe in the bird baths out the back, even when I am hanging out the washing. I have seen and heard them collide into the closed windows on the house. Thus far I have not seen one stunned or dead on the ground! Hope it stays that way. I have sometimes seen them hanging out with Yellow-tinted Honeyeaters (Lichenostomus flavescens) in the yard as well.
