Check out this link. It doesn't have any pics with the article but it describes the differences between the two species. The bloom size and leaf size seems to be the biggest difference between the two, the rose of sharon having smaller blooms and leaves than the rose mallow. http://www.ehow.com/info_8344777_different-varieties-hardy-hibiscus.html
