Field Notes

Description:

The male in breeding plumage has a striking bright blue forehead, ear coverts, mantle, and tail, with a black mask and black or dark blue throat. Non-breeding males, females and juveniles are predominantly grey-brown in colour.

Habitat:

Dry sclerophyl bush, and my back porch.

Notes:

A male showing his young what to eat (our dog's food).

Yep, she went from leisurely eating her food throughout the day, to wolfing it down before Lily horned in. Her bowl used to attract lots of wildlife, including mice and skinks. Now the birds wait for me to feed our chickens and ducks.
hahahaha.....poor Luna....!!
I swear that there are generations of fairy wrens who thought this was their "natural" diet. Until Luna's pup Lily came along two years ago; after that there was never any food left in Luna's dish.
