Field Notes

Description:

2009 started with an extremely cold (for the Netherlands) period. The Markermeer, the biggest lake in the Netherlands, was solid frozen. The reed along the dike was covered in ice. Like this the reed has a protecting function year round.

Habitat:

Phragmites, the Common reed, is a large perennial grass found in wetlands throughout temperate and tropical regions of the world.

Yes, the light is great, but melt,... no. It was around −25 celsius, without windchill :-)
@Mariajo Yes indeed. It was very early in the morning. I went out to see the sun come up over the ice. I was frozen to the bone, but that's not what these pictures show. They have a nice and warm feeling.
