Field Notes

Description:

These two bizarre cocoons were found on the leaves of a large magnolia tree. It looks as though the first one has an exit hole on the top. I've never seen a cocoon like this, so I'm not sure what broad species group it would belong to.

Habitat:

Both were found on the same tree and both cocoons were placed near the tip of the leaf.
