Field Notes

Description:

Some 4cm in length, male becomes bright red with maturity, with black spots on bottom segments. Female yellow-brownish. Orange-red nerves at bases of wings, with brown pterostigma. Easily confused with Ruddy darter; but the black legs with yellowish stripe along their length are diagnostic for this species (all black with Ruddy).

Habitat:

On banks of a small lake, reed vegetation, base of Jura mountain range.
