Thanks for taking the time Carol. I really appreciate it.
Wonderful series and reading your blog right now. Awesome! Enjoying it a lot!
Thanks a lot Laura. Will be visiting the forest officials in my next visit to see plans of action to protect these birds. I know a small group in my native place who work for this and I have agreed to support them. Let us see what turns up. Hope they listen and act fast.
Gorgeous spotting, Satyen :) Can't believe I haven't commented on this yet! So sad to hear about the flamingos being killed though. Your photos do a good job in explaining the beauty we lose by this.
Tony, the action is taken after several years here, the government is usually sleeping here. It has taken a lot of efforts for them to listen. The fact is that the government seeks to make this place a tourist attraction which is not possible without these birds so they are now taking steps.
Why are they always in need of placing things like pylons railroads and freeways trough the places where wildlife is so vulnerable. It's always a battle to preserve the beauty of nature. When people feed on the birdts a specialy when people are poor and in need of food, I think is hard to judg. It's a good thing the goverment takes action to preserve these lovely birds.
At Nalsarovar, I also learnt that some time back some people from Kutch were caught with nets and al least 10 Flamingo's. The Flamingo's were freed at Nalsarovar and the men and nets have been locked.
The government is taking steps to protect these visitors but people are killing them eventually for their own benefit. I have seen that in Gujarat, for the kite flying festival, there are boards in almost all towns showing bird helpline numbers. Also, there is mass appeal to stop using very sharp threads for flying the kites. I really appreciate what this government is doing. Others should follow.
This is nothing, look at what people are doing: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/ahmedabad/Flamingos-slaughtered-for-meat-in-Kutch/articleshow/11357532.cms
This should have been done long ago by the government ....... actions are taken after the damage is done!!! its a pity satyen thanks for keeping us updated
