Field Notes

Description:

Family: Lycaenidae; Subfamily: Riodininae Abisara neavei, Neave’s Judy or Neave’s Banded Judy, is a butterfly in the Riodinidae family. A cute little butterfly dancing around from leaf to leaf! It hardly ever stayed still.

Habitat:

The habitat consists of primary and gallery forests, as well as the fringes of submontane forests.

I saw this one dancing around on wild vegetation at the edge of a small coffee plantation at the base of a very steep rainforest mountain in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Uganda.

thanks Satyen. The forest was really beautiful. We saw Gorillas there after walking in it for 10 minutes, a whole family of them! And butterflies...
Beautiful series Pam, loved the habitat shot :)

Thanks Rob... It was beautiful, and cute also...!
Leuba, it was such a beautiful butterfly. I stood and watched it for a long time. It seemed to dance from leaf to leaf, hardly ever stayed still. Definitely one of my favourites. And as to going back to Uganda, that's definitely back on the list. I loved it. And the butterfly count is now up to 440 (with a few duplicates) and I'm still finding the odd one here and there that I missed, so choose a time when you have plenty of time!!! We should go out spotting together one day when I'm in Melbourne... I'll be in touch.
That white band makes it look metallic - this is such a beauty ! I haven't been through all your 300 spottings but will do soon. Congratulations on your collection, Pam. Might make you want to go back ??
