Field Notes

Description:

Large gull with slate coloured wings and differentiated from the great black-backed gull by its yellow legs. Exists only in Europe, and 40% of that population is found in the UK.

Habitat:

Coastal habitats, in the winter they can be found inland around the UK. Also saw some of these quite far out at sea, but not beyond the coastal shelf.

I agree Laura. The kingfisher in action pics are here: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/6778025 though they are not so good, its worth a look. I've got one where the bird is flying from the water with it's beak upwards, never seen anything like that before.
Yes tiny song birds are the hardest to catch on film! I would love to see your kingfisher photos are they on Noah?
Happens all the time with me. I was capturing a Lesser Pied King Fisher in action and out of 100 pics I could get only 10-15 good shots where we can make out there is a bird. Otherwise they were blank or blurred pics. It happens especially with smaller birds and when you are after a single one.
Thank you :) There were quite a few shots of just empty sky where I'd missed the birds haha!
