Field Notes

Description:

This looks like a hornet or wasp. It is purple in coloration. There appears to be a stinger or at least a pointy end to the abdomen. The eyes are an interesting shape. It is about 1.5 cm long.

Habitat:

Flowering areas. Meadows.

Notes:

The first one I've seen. Is it a pollinator?

Species ID Suggestions

Comments (4)

This is a Ropalidia. In Madagascar there are a lot of species that can be distinguished only examining specimens under microscope.
Yes, it is quite different. Madagascar has quite a few interesting insects and plants and animals. Excuse me for the delay I've been going through Jet Lag, so Project Noah has been on the back burner.
