Field Notes

Description:

Almost an inch, black abdomen with a bit of iridescence.
Tachinid flies are extremely varied in appearance.

Habitat:

temperate forest

Notes:

I spotted this at Baden Powell park on the edge of the city. I was taking photos of the candy striped leafhopper when this large fly landed practically in front of me. I took one photo before it flew away.

I think you're probably right. That's a huge family, could be tough to narrow it down but it's a start, thanks.
