excellent moth - I'm amazed at how many interesting forms these take
Those white markings seem to be key for ID-ing these moths... (As far as I've gathered after 5 mins of internet surfing!!) See e.g. See Page 252 & 255: http://books.google.com/books?id=N10sAEHunWEC&pg=PA254&lpg=PA254&dq=difference+soybean+and+tobacco+looper+moths&source=bl&ots=U3vULriXUQ&sig=aorJTxw5SQvA61W5Jv2289-pVLc&hl=en&ei=xoFlTtKHE4HkrAfWufSHCg&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=3&ved=0CDIQ6AEwAg#v=onepage&q&f=false
I'll also be interested in the results of your research! :-) (re. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/6788479)
It does look like that Ashish, I got the tobacco looper id from a local moth expert. I'll have to find out what the differences are and have a closer look into the proper identification.
