Field Notes

Description:

This small plant from the Ranunculaceae family has shiny lobed leaves and white flowers with 5 petals. Spotted here 2700 m above sea level. Flowers from May to September.

Habitat:

Rocks, limestone rich soils. 1500 to 2700 m above sea level.

Notes:

This flower is often the very last one to be seen on European limestone alpine soils before all vegetation disappears. It can cover entire rock lawns, as shown in the second shot.
