Field Notes

Description:

Vine with heart-shaped leaves native to Brazil and invasive in the southeastern U.S. Climbs without using tendrils. Flower is about the size of a human hand.

Habitat:

Semi-tropics and tropics.

Notes:

Leaves are host plant for Polydamus Swallowtail (Battus polydamas). Native Pipevine Swallowtail (Battus philenor) will lay eggs on this plant, but the leaves are toxic to the caterpillars.
