Field Notes

Description:

Hummingbird nesting.

Habitat:

Forest of oak, ash, hazel, etc. in the flood plain of the Long Tom River.

Notes:

Both parents were seen to be in the nest at the same time at times, spotted usually by their bills stuck into the air. Despite a lot of people moving near the nest for a week, they stuck with their task of hatching their eggs.

Very nice shot. I got a very similar shot about a month ago. Even though these birds were on opposite sides of the continent their nest building techniques are remarkably consistent. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/6616435
