Field Notes

Description:

A very gentle looking, medium sized gull. Very streamlined appearance in flight, yellow bill, black wing tips and big black eyes. There is another kittiwake species, the red-legged kittiwake, but it does not occur in Europe. Spends much of the winter out over the Atlantic. Very acrobatic!

Habitat:

Coastal areas when breeding

Notes:

The kittiwakes were very cute! They can do so much while they're flying, I sometimes saw them stretch their legs, scratch their bums and, in the case of the last photo, ruffle their feathers in mid-flight!

Welcome. I'm sure it must have been fun watching them. It is even cuter to see them lapping on the waves.
Thanks very much Satyen, they were a pleasure to watch gliding around!
