Rana temporaria
46.6432, 9.80799
Field Notes
Description:
This tiny baby European common frog (it was less than 5 cm long!) was spotted near a mountain stream on a rainy day. Their backs and flanks vary in colour, this one being mostly golden yellow/with olive green. They can lighten and darken their skin to match their surroundings. Notice the ear patch and the "golden" eye.
Habitat:
Found throughout much of Europe as far north as northern Scandinavia inside the Arctic Circle and as far east as the Urals, except for most of Iberia, southern Italy, and the southern Balkans.
Notes:
Getting the first shot required some acrobatics, even with a telelens!
