Field Notes
Description:
Shrub or small tree, up to 18 ft. high. Narrow branching, gray bark and branches, young twigs are yellowish-green. Leaves are alternate, compound, 2-4 inches of 8-12 pairs of leaflets. Pods are 1-2 inches long, sharply pointed, brown and smooth.
Habitat:
Spotted at Tamarac near the Discovery Center. Siberian peashrub is a perennial invasive species listed as a restricted noxious weed by the Minnesota Department of Agriculture. It invades woodland edges where it competes with native shrubs. Tamarac NWR continues to combat the Siberian peashrub as well as other invasive species.
Notes:
Siberian peashrub is native to Siberia and Manchuria and is a Minnesota invasive plant. It was originally planted as an ornamental shelterbelt.
