Eastern Cicada Killer

When I arrived at work this morning I noticed about half a dozen very large wasps seemingly fighting with each other. One looked like it was guarding a territory and the others would fly close, sometimes in a group, and they would lock together and there would be this erratic, flying ball of wasps for a few seconds. Later I grabbed my camera and went outside to photograph them. The male who's territory I was in was very interested in my camera and approached within inches of the lens at times. The last photo is of the only female that showed up. She seems to have some sort of growth or parasite attached to her right rear leg. She was enormous, possibly over two inches in length.
