Oh Atul! So so wonderful! I must tell you an exciting story of what I saw on my childhood river. OK, short and sweet. I saw 7 of these USA type birds on the river all lined up together while I was walking.
I believe the current Little Egret identification is correct. The snowy egret is the US version of this bird. The little egret is nearly identical to the snowy egret http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Egret only it is found in Europe and Asia.

no we dont and yes its feet were yellow
Likely you have a Snowy Egret there. Do you remember if it's feet were yellow? But maybe you don't call them that in India.
