Description:

2 insects mating, very small, 5mm,

Habitat:

temperater forest

Notes:

I spotted these at Baden Powel park on the edge of the city. I'd never seen anything like these.

Very interesting. At first they looked like tortoise beetles, but I don't think they're beetles at all now. I'm pretty sure these are two leafhoppers, family Cicadellidae. The last picture shows them pretty well, and from the specimen on the left, you can see the shape of the head and general body plan, which seems to match up with leafhoppers pretty well.
I've been looking at leaf beetles and plant hoppers. I can't find any matches yet.

If you figure them out let me know- I have one on my page too. Have no idea what it is
Dan I have the impression that they somehow look like min cicadas - could they be some kind of plant hopper?
