Or might this one be related to the Green Arches moth (Anaplectoides prasina)?
Could this be a Small Mossy Lithacodia (Lithacodia musta)? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Lithacodia_musta.jpg
Thanks Dangermouse! Just a few months ago I started with photography and with trying to make a record of the creatures in and around our house... Feel like I'm in a constant state of surprise and wonder... :-)
Thanks Nicole! ... And fascinating is the right word! :-)
No idea on ID, I'm afraid, but that's a great shot! And I agree with NicoleB - nature is fascinating. Let's hope it never ceases to surprise us! :) Good luck with the ID, AnnvanWijgerden.
Impressive indeed! Is nature fascinating or what :D!? Cool find!
This one still seems to have had something take a bite out of it (2nd photo) - despite the great camouflage and extra 'snake eyes'... :-} Am still trying to ID this one. Saw something similar on a website of UK moths - the Marbled Beauty Moth (Cryphia domestica): http://www.animalphotos.me/moth-marb.htm Anyone any ideas... ?
It does look like a snake, doesn't it! This moth first caught my eye because of the camouflage design. It wasn't until I looked at the macro image on the computer screen that I noticed the 'extra eye'... Then I was even more impressed!
I have seen your photos and there are a lot of different moth species. This one looks like a snake, it is a good strategy for survival.
