Description:

similar to red breasted merganser but heavier with thicker bill, male mostly white, female brown head sharply contrasting white chin and neck

Habitat:

common locally on deep clear lakes and rivers.Nest in tree cavities and on the ground near large lakes, feeds on fish

Notes:

these guys were spotted on the Klondike River near Dawson City Yukon
