Field Notes

Description:

Orange butterfly that was pretty ragged. Top part of wings orange with dark spots. Lower part of wings dark.

Habitat:

Front yard of my house in an older suburban neighborhood with mature trees. One primary food for the Question Mark butterfly is hackberry trees, and we just cut down a hackberry in our front yard near where I saw this guy.

Notes:

I've never seen one of these here before. We had a major storm blow through last night, and this butterfly was very ragged. I wonder if it got blown off-course in the storm?
