Field Notes

Description:

Medium-sized toad usually ranging in size from 5–9 cm (2.0–3.5 in). The colour and pattern is somewhat variable. Skin colour can change depending on humidity, stress, and temperature. Colour changes range from yellow to brown to black. This individual is very dark colored.

Habitat:

American Toads require a semi-permanent freshwater pond or pool with shallow water in which to breed and for their early development.

Notes:

This toad lives in my shed. There are some spots on the floor without tiles and it makes a little burrow to sit it. I've been seeing it for weeks now most times I go into my shed during the day.

Thanks for all the comments. Great link Annvan, it's good to hear they are still discovering 'lost' species. Luc, this big guy stayed still for at least a couple minutes before he had enough of me.
Yes... Luc I experienced that some Toad and Frogs with larger sizes are not quick to run away...!!
Incredible ! This guy was not afraid to go near like that. It's spectacular !!
Good learning lesson...!!
