Field Notes

Description:

Goldenrod always gives me a hint that fall is just around the corner. This is a flowering plant of about 120 different species in the aster family. A perennial wildflower plant about 4-5 feet tall with golden fluffy colored small flower spikes that grow in clusters. Goldenrod is also the name of a color--defined as a strong to vivid yellow. Some people believe that it causes allergies but it does not. It is edible and is well known for its healing properties.

Habitat:

The goldenrod is just coming into bloom along the wildflower trail at our county park.
