Field Notes

Description:

This medium sized barnacle is identified by the purple stripes. It is cone shaped. It attaches to solid structures in the water (ex. docks and pilings) sieving food from the water as the food passes by. They also grow on moveable solid structures such as ships - an example of biofouling. As an interesting note, its genome has been sequenced.

Habitat:

Warm and temperate seas.
