Field Notes

Description:

This bird was watching our fishing boat come into dock. It took off from the top of the boat to a piling.

Habitat:

Near shore, Gulf of Mexico.
"Individuals usually forage while standing in water, but will also feed in fields or drop from the air, or a perch, into water. As large wading birds, Great Blue Herons are able to feed in deeper waters, and thus are able to harvest from niche areas not open to most other heron species.
It feeds in shallow water or at the water's edge during both the night and the day, but especially around dawn and dusk. It uses its long legs to wade through shallow water, and spears fish or frogs with its long, sharp bill."-Wikipedia

Susan, I'm using a 70-300 Nikon Lens. I want to get an even better zoom someday, but this one works for now. I can also use it as my main lens in a single lens situation, but have to be about 2 steps further thank most people expect me to be. It's nice for blurring the backgrounds.
what zoom lens are you using? zoom lens is needed especially on shooting birds...I have to invest in a good one in the future.
